The stories in I Thought He Would Be in Jail are the true-life adventures of a mischievous hyperactive boy who became a prank-playing jet-age pilot instead. Growing up in the 1940s and '50s, Steve Taylor created trouble everywhere he went. He skipped school for weeks at a time but never took a day off from walking on the edge. Some tales tug at your heart, some make you laugh, and some will show the upside of benign neglect. All will entertain you with the magic of mid-20th century small town life in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

I read the stories with interest. The author's descriptions were very good and it was a great reading. The descriptions brought back memories of a by gone day. I agree with the title that after reading this book as well as his previous book, I am also surprised he was not in jail.

I Thought He Would Be in Jail (Audible Audio Edition) Steve Taylor Marlin May Books Reviews

If you grew up in the 50s and want to take a trip back, you will not be disappointed! The fun escapades in this book make one acutely aware of the many freedoms we have lost in these ensuing years due to a change in the culture and to over-regulation. Thank you, Steve Taylor, for this gem of a book!
I knew Steve's book would be accurate, factual, and humorous, but the surprise was how deeply he revealed his inner self and the deep thinker he is. He was considered the happy go lucky, no filter, fun lover with no interest in High School. Those of us who got to know him saw the depth and brillance that attracted us. What a great remembrance of the 50's! The only problem I have is if I should let my children and grandchildren read this story of our senior class. Keep up the writing, Steve!
This is a book written in the style of Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn" and portrays life growing up in a small town in South Carolina in the 40's amd 50's. It was a carefree time and things that a young person did then would not be tolerated today. But it is well worth reading and each story ends with a positive note of how we learn from our experiences. The writer is brutally honest and does not try to sugar coat his actions, but leaves the reader with kn0owing that one learns from their actions. Well worth the read.
Steve Taylor is a gifted story teller, his book revealing a time that is long past and now only a distant memory. Those born in the South, during the
30"s, who lived through the War Years and entered college in the 50's will have a special appreciation for this book.
I roomed with Steve 1956-57 at The Citadel. Reading "I Thought He Would Be In Jail" was an education bringing forth many hilarious and serious aspects of his life. I finally understand why, during our plebe year, Steve was different from other freshmen, being absolutely fearless and taking it all in stride.
I vividly remember when Jose' Mendez got "washed out"! As I write this review I cannot help but laugh as I recall this night. The story as Steve relates it is absolutely true, including the filthy water containing cigarette butts, made freezing cold with dry ice.
Steve's writing does not mince words. The stories and the characters could not be made up or imagined. This book is moving, it is funny and the
title is most appropriate.
Loved this book as it brought back many fond memories of growing up in the 50's, although I didn't get into as much trouble as Steve did!
A fun read!
